Turn-lane project on US 59 begins Sept. 14

September 11, 2026

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY – Work to improve safety conditions along a 6.6-mile stretch of US 59 south of Nacogdoches is expected to get underway next week.

Work will occur between the Nacogdoches city limits and the Angelina River.

On the northbound side of the road, turn lanes will be extended at County Road (CR) 620, Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 2782, and Old Ferry Road. The turn lane at CR 525 on the southbound side will also be extended. Four-foot-wide shoulders will be added at the locations as well.

Lane closures will occur while work is performed, and drivers should plan accordingly and follow all traffic control in the area.

Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed in late summer 2027.

Cedar Park, Texas-based contractor Texas Materials will perform the work.
