Better Biking in Nac - The Chamber Rolls out a biking conversation, and You are invited!

The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce invites members and guests to its Fourth Friday Luncheon “Better Biking Begins with You” on Thursday, July 24, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Fredonia Hotel & Convention Center.

The luncheon will feature speakers Mitch Coffman and Anish Tailor, who will present on behalf of ACTIONetwork in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Lufkin District. Attendees will learn about the TxDOT District Bicycle Plan and how it aims to improve safety, connectivity, and access for people who bike throughout the region.

About the presentation

The TxDOT District Bicycle Plan is part of a statewide effort to evaluate and improve bicycle mobility across Texas. While the plan does not directly fund specific projects, it provides a framework to help TxDOT and local partners prioritize future improvements as opportunities arise through roadway projects, maintenance, and funding programs.

The Lufkin District includes Angelina, Houston, Nacogdoches, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, and Trinity counties. The plan focuses on practical improvements such as safer shoulders, lower-stress routes through towns, and better connections to schools, parks, downtown areas, trailheads, and civic destinations.

Public input will be a key part of the discussion. Participants will be invited to share feedback on areas where bicycling feels unsafe or difficult, including intersections, visibility concerns, pavement conditions, and gaps in connectivity. Both cyclists and motorists are encouraged to attend and contribute.
