Steel Magnolias at Lamp-Lite Theatre
FUNNIER than the Movie!!!
This “rollicking and altogether endearing play” returns to Lamp-Lite after a first production in 1990 as a new show. Robert Harling, actor-turned playwright, wrote the play in ten days, saying “it was not so much written as remembered.” Harling had returned to his hometown, Natchitoches, LA, where he holed up and wrote the play after his sister’s death. The story takes place in Truvy’s Beauty Shop where the “Steel Magnolias” meet regularly to chat and gossip about men, marriage and the latest hairstyles, forming a tight-knit group of witty intelligent “comrades in arms.”
Kim Cross Dolese, Pat Harris, Jody Ryan, Melissa DeVine, Tiffany Gauntt and Jessica Oswald play coveted roles in the show. Our first cast included Carrie Swann, Judith Stewart, Joan Smith, Wanda Key Schenk, Glenda White and Patty Rodewald.
