The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites you to hear Dr. Unna Lassiter speak about Sri Lanka, an enchanting Indian Ocean island, formerly known as Ceylon. Once the site of tragedy (a civil war that ended in 2009) and a devastating tsunami (2004), Sri Lanka is now rapidly developing and attracting tourists seeking endless sandy beaches, scenic villages and deep forests, and a cultural heritage that spans over 3000 years.
Unna Lassiter has traveled to every corner of the island and will present a selection of her photos of the people, places and animals of Sri Lanka. She taught at SFA in the Department of Political Science, Geography and Public Administration in 2004-06. She now teaches at California State University Long Beach where she teaches courses such as Political Geography, Sacred Geographies and International Environmental Issues.
The presentation will be Tuesday, June 10th at 5:00 p.m. and refreshments will be served.
For questions about programs, call Crystal Hicks, Assistant Library Director, at 936-559-2970.
