From Nacogdoches to Natchitoches – Sale on the Trail taking place May 3-4
The eleventh annual El Camino Real Sale on the Trail will take place Friday and Saturday, May 3-4, along the historic El Camino Real de los Tejas Caddo region, which stretches from Nacogdoches, Texas, to Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Passing through about six communities, the trail boasts new and used items sold at numerous locations from both local businesses and private sellers.
While the sale exists as a fun shopping weekend, it also provides a great opportunity for travelers to learn about the importance of the historic trail by viewing historical markers along the way.
Designated as a National Historic Trail in 2004, the El Camino has existed for more than 300 years.
The Spaniards and the French who marked the trail were followed by early missionaries of multiple faiths and later by such men as Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett.
New to this year’s trail offerings is the addition of Vintage Market Days, a vintage-inspired market taking place May 3-5 at the Nacogdoches County Exposition and Civic Center. Featuring art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, homemade treasures, home décor and more, the market includes something for everyone. For more information about the market, go to VisitNac.com/vintage-market-days.
“From a tourism perspective, the Sale on the Trail is a wonderful event for the Nacogdoches community,” said Stephanie Fontenot, marketing director for the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Not only does it bring visitors to our participating locations, but it also brings attention to this historic trail and the regional efforts that are being taken to recognize it.”
