On Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at 11:30 a.m., Nacogdoches High School Organic Living Club, along with Boy Scout Troop 100, will celebrate the completion of the new gazebo and added outside picnic tables built by NHS students and sponsored by Schlotzsky's of Nacogdoches.
The celebration will take place at NHS in front of the newly built gazebo, located off the Appleby Sand Road entrance for the high school on the east side of campus near the flagpole.
The gazebo was designed and built by NHS senior, Jack Dalton Bryant as his Eagle project for Boy Scout Troop 100.
"I knew I wanted to build something and wanted my Eagle project to make an impact in our community," said Bryant. "NHS and the Organic Living Club seemed a natural fit to make a beautiful structure for our campus and students that would benefit many for years to come. I am proud of the project and thankful to everyone who contributed and made this a reality."
The gazebo will serve as an outdoor learning environment for students to relax and enjoy during mega lunch, along with the tables constructed by NHS Career and Technology Education (CTE) students.
Schlotzsky's donated the funds to NHS for the CTE students to design and build tables as part of a class project. The tables are located outdoors for more students to use during mega lunch.
The CTE classes were able to showcase their skills taught in the classroom by building the five new picnic tables for NHS. Each table seats about eight students and has an engraved plaque in recognition of Schlotzsky's generous donation.
"I hold teachers in high esteem," said Schlotzsky's owner Kathy Partin. "They play a very important role in my sons' lives. They educate them in ways that I cannot. I am so grateful for all they do. Parental and community involvement is crucial to a successful education program. I am thankful for NISD and feel privileged to partner with them."
