Red Ribbon Week, October 23-31, 2018
Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country and will be celebrated this year October 23-31, 2018. It serves as a vehicle for our community to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of our children through a commitment to illegal drug use prevention and education. It is a time of personal commitment to live drug free lives with the goal of being the creation of a drug free America.
Red Ribbon Week commemorates the ultimate sacrifice made by DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who believed that even one person could make a difference. Officer Camarena died at the hands of drug traffickers in Mexico in 1985 while fighting the battle against illegal drugs to keep our country and children safe. Coalitions began forming across the nation, wearing red badges of satin, red ribbons, in Camarena's memory and as a symbol of the fight that took his life.
Please support this community wide effort to make Nacogdoches a safe place to live! Businesses, civic groups, churches and individuals are encouraged to request Red Ribbons FREE OF CHARGE. Call NAC-CAN Coalition at 936-569-7678 or email Cindy Vargas at cvargas@adacdet.org
