Nacogdoches CVB to highlight National Tourism Week with ceremony May 8
The Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau will host a ceremony unveiling the first official Pineywoods Barn Quilt Challenge in recognition of National Tourism and Travel Week at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the Charles Bright Visitor Center located at 200 E. Main St. downtown.
The Pineywoods Barn Quilt Trail is a culmination of efforts by the Nacogdoches CVB, the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce and the Nacogdoches Quilters Guild and exists as a new tourist attraction in the region that celebrates the art of quilt making in America’s past. More than 85 artistic pieces - either wooden or metal squares that have been adorned with colorful patterns - are currently registered and displayed throughout Nacogdoches County for public viewing.
The ceremony will highlight the overall theme of National Tourism and Travel Week, which this year, has been deemed as a recognition of “Then and Now.” The unveiling of the first official Pineywoods Barn Quilt Challenge will acknowledge Nacogdoches’ “now,” as the trail exists as the newest ongoing tourist attraction. The ceremony also will highlight historical aspects of Texas’ oldest town, summarizing major events and figures who have contributed to the city’s development.
The first official barn quilt challenge will include 15 specific trail locations that have been included on a special itinerary developed by the CVB. Itineraries and maps will be available to the public at the visitor center during the ceremony. Those who complete the challenge and its requirements will receive a commemorative Pineywoods Barn Quilt T-shirt.
Barn quilts will be on display during the ceremony for public viewing. The event is open to the public.
