The Janelle Grum Family Crisis Center of East Texas is thrilled to announce that Lorena Gallo, formerly known as Lorena Bobbitt, will be the keynote speaker at the 2nd Annual Passion for Purple Luncheon! The event is set for Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center. Lorena’s powerful story, which garnered global attention in 1993, illuminates the severe challenges faced by domestic violence survivors. After enduring years of verbal, physical, and sexual abuse, Lorena’s actions led to a widely publicized trial for malicious wounding. While the jury recognized her actions as self-defense driven by trauma, the broader focus often shifted away from her abuse and onto the dramatic aspects of the trial. This luncheon celebrates the significant progress made since the Janelle Grum Family Crisis Center’s founding 45 years ago, a time when resources for domestic violence survivors were minimal. The event serves as a crucial reminder of the ongoing need for awareness and support for those affected by domestic violence. Attendees can enjoy a delightful meal, exciting raffle prizes, and contribute to a cause that makes a real difference. Tickets are $50 each, with table sponsorships available for $500.
