The Neches River National Wildlife Refuge is an important new East Texas environmental tourism destination that will open to the public on February 25, 2015. Entry is free of charge and the hours will be l:00 PM to 4:00. Following a short program explaining why the Refuge was established, US Fish and Wildlife Service personnel and scientists and their graduate students will lead walks in the woods and along the banks of the Neches River to acquaint visitors with the variety of wildlife that calls the Refuge home. Bottled water will be available, but visitors are advised to bring their own camp chairs.
