Motorcycle Safety Awarness Month
Good afternoon,
May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness month, and on Thursday, the Texas Department of Transportation kicked off its annual Share the Road campaign.
Drivers must train themselves to see motorcycles. Always look twice – it could save a life.
After a crash, law enforcement officers often hear the same words: “The motorcycle came out of nowhere.” The reality is, motorcycles don’t appear out of nowhere. They’re simply smaller and easier to overlook, especially when drivers are distracted or in a hurry.
In 2025 there were 118 motorcycle crashes in the Lufkin District, killing 12 and seriously injuring 46 motorcyclists.
Please see the attached media release about what drivers can do to be more aware of motorcycles when traveling.
Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything.
Thanks,
