Intro to Geology
Come to Mission Tejas State Park for an introduction to the wide world of the study of rocks and their millions-of-years-long cycles. We will meet at the Commemorative Mission and begin by inspecting different stone samples and go over the basics of rock ID and uses. Afterwards, we will go on a relatively easy hike to the Hardwood Trail and get a look at the Weches Eocene Formation; a unique rock strata dating back from 56- to just under 34-million years ago. This strata is known for its high iron levels and marine fossils from East TX and Louisiana's time being submerged under water. Restrooms available. Please bring water, sunscreen and insect repellant for the hike.
