As part of National Trails Day through the American Hiking Society, Nacogdoches Historic Sites will host their annual Hike through History, where participants will take a hike through historic neighborhoods, trails, and areas with significant stories. On Saturday, June 1st at 8:30 am, we will begin the Hike through History at the Sterne-Hoya House 211 S. Lanana St. The hike this year will focus on the life and efforts of Dr. Ab Abernethy and his work on the Lanana Creek Trail. Register for Hike through History by emailing historicsites@nactx.us or by calling/texting 936-560-4441. About the Hike: The Hike will begin at the Sterne-Hoya House (across from the Abernethy House) at 8:30 am. The Hike will be around a mile long and will go to park street and then circle back. The trail will be along the creek. Closed-toe shoes, long pants, and other protection from the natural elements are encouraged. Parts of the trail may be muddy and uneven. As part of the initiative for National Trails Day, we will bring trash bags along the hike and pick up any trash seen to leave the trailer better than we find it. The tour will be guided by Mr. Jeff Abt, who worked with Dr. Abernethy on numerous projects and will be able to share stories and inside to the history of the trail and creek.
