The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the film “Selma,” written by Paul Webb and directed by Ava DuVernay, at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House. Selected to celebrate February as Black History Month, “Selma” chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965 when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. The Cole Art Center, SFA’s historic downtown gallery, is located at 329 E. Main St. For more information, call (936) 468-1131.
