About Mikhail Kouliavtsev
Dr. Mikhail Kouliavtsev is currently professor of economics, chair of the Department of Economics and Finance, and director of the Center for Business and Economic Research at Stephen F. Austin State University. He joined the faculty at SFA in 2007; prior to SFA, he was an assistant professor of economics at Philadelphia University (now part of Thomas Jefferson University) in Philadelphia, PA.
His research is in the areas of industrial organization, antitrust policy, international trade, and the economics of education and has been published in some of the leading journals in economics.
At SFA, Mikhail teaches courses in microeconomics, managerial economics, and statistics. He has also engaged in work with NEDCO and the city on various projects.
Mikhail is a native of Moscow, Russia. He came to the US on the Rotary Youth Exchange in 1993 and spent a year in Highlands Ranch, CO. Subsequently, he attended Lyon College in Arkansas for his BA in Economics and Mathematics, followed by receiving his MA and PhD degrees, both in economics from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.
Mikhail resides in Nacogdoches with his wife Sarah and their two children: five-year-old son Aleksandr (Sasha) and not-quite-two-month-old daughter Nadezhda (Nadia).
