Día de los Muertos Fiesta - Downtown Nacogdoches
(Nacogdoches, TX) – The Nacogdoches Public Library is presenting the 7th annual Día de los Muertos Fiesta in downtown Nacogdoches on Saturday, November 2nd from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is celebrated throughout Mexico in various forms, from family visits to cemeteries, building altars with food and treats for the deceased, to parades, and more. The event in Nacogdoches will combine many features of this tradition. The street festival will feature food vendors, children’s activities, retail vendors, and special entertainment by Chikawa Aztec Dancers, Los Leñadores, Son de México dancers, Ketzaly dancers, and Zaya. The Convention and Visitors Center will host a costume contest with prizes. Participants need only gather at the CVB stage on the south side of the square to enter, and there will be three rounds: at 5:00pm, 6:00pm, and 7:00 p.m. This year’s celebration will also includes a display of of rendas (altars) created by community members to honor their loved ones.
