Apron Chronicles: A Patchwork of American Recollections
The apron is an artifact that documents changes in fashion and domestic work. Whether simple or fanciful, the apron evokes powerful memories of friendly gatherings, family celebrations, hard work and good food. When we remember grandmother in her work apron or presenting a holiday meal in her embroidered apron, we find common ground across communitites and generations.
The traveling exhibit includes 46 portraits of men and women aged 13 to 109 with accompanying narrative panels and 100 vintage aprons.
This program was made possible in part with a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
