SUMMARY:Wednesday Night Live: Project Belize
DESCRIPTION:Westminster Presbyterian Church welcomes Dr. Bruce McNellie on Wednesday\, March 27 to share about Project Belize's dynamic mission. Guests will learn about the challenges\, successes and innovations the organization has experienced. The free dinner and presentation are hosted in Westminster Hall\, at 903 North Street from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. Please call 936-564-0203 or email wpc4u@suddenlinkmail.com to reserve a seat. In 1987\, a group of doctors\, dentists\, nurses and social workers from Nacogdoches responded to a request from Amigos International to help villagers in remote areas. Residents are so removed from modernity\; access to simple needs like clean water continues to affect community health. Organized as the non-profit Project Belize\, this group returns Belize annually with critically needed dental and medical care. "A number of villages in the Toledo District of Belize\, Central America depend solely on creek water for drinking and bathing. This contributes to a very high intestinal parasite infection for most villagers\," McNellie said. Westminster members encourage and support a wide variety of mission projects in our community and abroad. Contributions from Westminister will help Project Belize bring highly effective filters to aid in clarifying and purifying local water sources. McNellie is an adjunct faculty member for SFA's School of Social Work. He has more than 30 years of experience in the field of child protective services working for the state of Texas. McNellie holds a Ph.D. in Psychology\, a Masters of Social Work\, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker\, Licensed Professional Counselor\, and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and has DSCW recognition. The 2019 Project Belize volunteer group embarks May 19\, 2019. Donations for continued care and support are welcome through projectbelize.org and Amazon Smile.
