DESCRIPTION:To kick off Mental Health Awareness Month\, Burke\, Brentwood Hospital\, and Stephen F. Austin State University School of Social Work are hosting a viewing of the documentary "Suicide: The Ripple Effect." The film will be shown at the Movie Theater in the Baker Pattillo Student Center at Stephen F. Austin State University on Wednesday\, May 1. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the film will start at 5:45.\n\n \n\n"Suicide: The Ripple Effect" is a feature-length documentary film and MOVEMENT\, focusing on the devastating effects of suicide and the tremendous positive ripple effects of advocacy\, inspiration\, and hope that are helping millions heal & stay alive. Seen by over 250\,000 people already\, across 7 countries\, this film is having a global impact.\n\n \n\nThe film highlights the journey of Kevin Hines\, who at age 19\, attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Today Kevin is a world-renowned mental health advocate\, motivational speaker and author who travels the globe spreading a message of hope\, recovery\, and wellness. \n\nThe film chronicles Kevin's personal journey and the ripple effect it has on those who have been impacted by his suicide attempt and his life's work since. In addition\, the film highlights the stories of individuals and families who are utilizing their personal tragedy to bring hope and healing to others.\n\n \n\nAfter the film\, local behavioral health providers will be available for questions if needed. \n\n \n\nThe film is suitable for ages ten and up. Children 17 and under are free and those 18 and up pay a small fee of $2.00. All tickets include concessions of popcorn\, candy\, and a soft drink.
