DESCRIPTION:Garden lecture features an insider's perspective of the Houston Botanic Garden SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. on April 10 in the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center\, 2900 Raguet Street\, Nacogdoches. Brent Moon\, Houston Botanic Garden\, will discuss "Building a Garden for the Gulf South-an Insider's Perspective." The Houston Botanic Garden opened in Fall of 2020 and is Houston's newest outdoor destination\, dedicated to enriching life through discovery\, education\, and conservation of plants and the natural environment. The Garden strives to inspire all people to love plants and be good stewards of the natural world. Moon is passionate about horticulture and conservation and has a special interest in growing bananas\, orchids\, aroids and other tropical plants. He has BS degree in horticulture from Murray State University and started his career in horticulture at the Missouri Botanical Garden. He also worked at the Houston Parks Department for fourteen years before transitioning to the Houston Botanic Garden as Horticulture Manager. He was promoted to Associate Director of Natural Areas\, Conservation and Facilities in 2024. Moon lives on 5 acres with his wife\, Sharon\, several cats and a dog. They enjoy gardening\, hiking and travel. The Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series is held the second Thursday of each month and includes a plant raffle after the program. Attendance is free and open to the public\, and donations to the lecture series fund are always appreciated.
