DESCRIPTION:Region 7 ESC Community Board Information Workshop for potential School Board Members\n\n \n\nNACOGDOCHES\, January 31\, 2017   The Region 7 Education Service Center will be hosting a workshop for anyone interested in board governance and our public schools. The Community Board Information Workshop will be February 11\, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce meeting room at 2516 North St. \n\nClick to download form.\n\n \n\nThis workshop is for all Nacogdoches County citizens. The workshop will provide Information relevant for all county school districts and their board of trustees.\n\n \n\nRepresentatives from the Region 7 ESC will present an overview of the rules\, responsibilities and commitments of public school board members at the workshop. Texas Education Agency (TEA) Deputy Commissioner AJ Crabill will lead an informational session discussing school board governance and priorities.  If you have ever had an interest in running for school board or just wanted to know more how our public schools are governed\, this is a great workshop to attend.\n\n \n\nCrabill will discuss information he believes school board members need to know\, which will range from the difference between academic outputs and outcomes to the state accountability system.  Attendance is not mandatory to run in the May 2017 election.\n\n \n\nThe Board of Trustees consists of members elected to serve\, without compensation\, for overlapping terms of three years each. Elections are conducted annually in May. Following the annual election\, the board elects a president\, vice president\, and secretary to serve for a one year term.\n\n \n\nThe Nacogdoches ISD Dragon Community Partners will provide lunch and drinks for the event.  The NISD Board of Trustees will have three positions open for the May 6\, 2017 Election. Candidate application packets are available at the E.J. Campbell District Support Center located at 420 S. Shawnee Street\, Nacogdoches\, Texas. The application is also available for downloading from the Secretary of State's website.\n\n \n\nThe first day to file was Wednesday\, January 18\, 2017 at 8 a.m. and the last day to file is Friday\, February 17\, 2017 at 5 p.m. The deadline to Write-in Candidacy is Tuesday\, February 21\, 2017 at 5 p.m.
