SUMMARY:Drive-Thru Flu Shots
DESCRIPTION:Nacogdoches Health Partners is making it easy for you to get your flu shot! Drive-thru and get your shot without leaving your car - Fridays in October. Flu shots are free with most insurance. Call 936-559-0700 for an appointment and join us in spreading cheer\, not flu this holiday season! As flu season approaches\, Wilburn "Eddy" Furniss\, III\, MD recommends getting the shots in October for the most protection. "Getting a flu shot any earlier than October will leave you with less protection late in the season\," Dr. Furniss said. "And it's important to get the right version of the vaccine. Not all flu shots are created equal. I recommend the 4-valent shot\, which is designed to protect against four different strains of flu virus. If you're 65 or older\, be certain to get the high-dose vaccine for seniors." Flu vaccines are the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against influenza and its potentially serious complications. They can prevent you from getting sick with the flu and can reduce the severity of illness and the risk of hospitalization if you do get sick. "Flu shots are going to have a little more importance this year for public health\," Dr. Furniss said. "Australia\, which gives us an idea of how our flu season will look\, has had an active and heavy flu season. The flu causes millions of illnesses\, hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations and far too many preventable deaths each year. The more people who get vaccinated\, the more people are protected."
