In high school, his family moved to Canada, so Dave had a whole different set of influences. No longer surrounded by only country music, Dave found that he loved anything with soul. He began writing songs at the age of 15 and picked up a guitar at 18. His “genre-free philosophy” keeps audiences surprised. He has shared the stage with musical greats Dwight Yoakam and Dierks Bentle. Dave works as a songwriter in Nashville and heads from Nacogdoches to Chicago to kick-off a tour with Grammy Award-winning country music star and singer-songwriter Miranda Lambert.

Aug 14    SFA Gardens Lecture Series
SFA Gardens Lecture Series to Feature South Carolina Horticulturist
August, 2014
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 14, in the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches.

Ethan Kauffmann will present “Green Roofs, Green Walls, the South Carolina Way.”

Ethan grew up in Lancaster, PA, before attending Clemson University and earning a B.S. in Biology. In 2007 he joined Moore Farms Botanical Garden after eight years at Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden where he managed the zoo horticulture program. In his current position as Garden Director at Moore Farms Botanical Garden, he has led the transition from a private pleasure garden to a non-profit botanical garden. Ethan has collected plants across the country and abroad but is always excited to return to the wild places of South Carolina. He feels that horticulture connects us to the natural world and that exploring this relationship is vital to understanding and defining our place in it. Ethan currently resides in Columbia, South Carolina with his wife Jennifer.

The Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series is held the second Thursday of each month at the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture’s SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center. A rare plant raffle will be held after the program.

Aug 20    Lunch Hour Book Club
Do you like to talk about books?  Are you a reader looking for recommendations on what to read next?  The Judy B. McDonald Public Library offers the program tailored just for you.  The Lunch Hour Book Club is held every other Wednesday at noon and participants bring in whatever they?re currently reading to discuss, recommend or pan.  ?The book club?s goal is to be flexible and afford the opportunity to meet with like-minded people who want an alternative to the traditional book club,? says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director.  ?In a traditional book club, everyone reads the same book, and we?ve found that to be too restrictive.  We always have a great time as a group, introducing each other to books that we might not have otherwise discovered on our own.?

Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Location: Judy B. McDonald Public Library
1112 North St.
