Day of Caring is an annual event held at United Ways around the world, mobilizing the caring power of local volunteers to make a meaningful impact. Volunteers will gather bright and early to be divided into teams that will spend the rest of the morning working at various project sites. This year, projects are planned at Boys and Girls Club, Harold's House, Love INC, Salvation Army, Senior Center, Women's Shelter, and Camp Whispering Pines.
In addition to the project work sites, a collection of items for the needy is going on all over town in the time leading up to Day of Caring. Another Day of Caring project will then be sorting and distributing all the donated items to area charities. Items being collected include toiletries, linens, non-perishables, pet food and toys, paint supplies, school supplies, and various special or large items such as rocking chairs. A complete list can be found via a link on the Nacogdoches Area United Way Facebook page. The entire community is invited to participate in the item collection. Donation sites can be found at Rex Perry Autoplex, Burke Center, Austin Bank, Express Employment Professionals, Pineywoods Psychological Services, Nacogdoches County Courthouse Annex, Etech, Eaton Corporation, and NIBCO.
