Spanking in Nacogdoches ISD Schools Forum Coordinated by Nacogdoches Citizens and sponsored by the NASW-Deep East Texas Branch Raising community awareness about the Nacogdoches public school policy that automatically opts ALL children into a discipline system that uses corporal punishment.
If parents/guardians don't want corporal punishment (pops, paddling, spanking, licks) used to discipline their children, parents/guardians must opt out - each year - in writing.
(This is a change from previous years in which the school required parents to opt-in to corporal punishment as an acceptable method of disciplining children.) Texas defines corporal punishment as "the deliberate infliction of physical pain by hitting, paddling, spanking, slapping, or any other physical force used as a means of discipline." In order to promote education success and stability, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services caseworkers must ensure that caregivers complete and sign school-provided forms to “OPT OUT ” of corporal punishment for a child or youth in conservatorship.
